March 29, 2008"PHOTOGRAPHS AS TIMELESS MEMORIES IN A RAPIDLY TRA
A visit to a "Hongkong photo exhibition" in December 2005 made me realise the prescious value of "PHOTOGRAPHS". The exhibitor had titled his photographic exhibition on old buildings and Hong-kong street culture as" SEE HONGKONG BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS!?", an excellent thought provoking advertisement relevant to any larege city,Country or culture, including Mumbai.
Manny of my "Photographs" have been taken during sea-voyages to Country's that i might never visit again but have captured in "Photographs".
"Photographs" of Mumbai's "Worli Fort and Worli fishing village" are close reminders of the evolution of the World's third largest City from a fishing port which is rapidly "URBANISING" to "Skyscraper technology".Mumbai is my home city , hence i decided to portray a locality which i was familiar as well as helped in preserving through the media. Mombassa, my birth place is a distant memory in "Photo Galleries and "Photographs" do convey the culture,living conditions and social norms of an era which change rapidly through political, social or economical evolution.Mumbai of 1968 is mostly photographic memories in 2008!
